ASC: Orientation and College Prep.

Orientation Details

Monday, August 19 to Friday, August 23, 2019

9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m daily

These intensive week long sessions focus on preparing incoming students in selected skilled trades and engineering programs with the essential math skills needed for success in their program. Academic Coaches will also be on hand to provide tips on effective study habits and skills and to provide information on how to access the ongoing academic support services available throughout the college academic year.

Trades Math Orientation

For students entering: Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing and Refrigeration.

Math Topics Covered:

  • Order of Operations

  • Fractions, decimals & percents

  • Imperial and Metric measurements, unit conversion

  • Linear measurement

  • Perimeter, circumference, area, volume, ratio and proportion

  • Working with formulas

  • Algebra

Engineering Math Orientation

For students entering: Civil / Mechanical Engineering Technology and Construction Management.

Math Topics Covered:

  • Order of Operations

  • Fractions, decimals & percents

  • Ratio and Proportion

  • Scientific Notation

  • Similar Figures

  • Exponents, Radicals and Operations

  • Classification of Polynomials

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of algebraic expressions

  • Linear Equations

  • Algebraic Formula Manipulations

  • Basic Trigonometry and Pythagorean Theorem
